Service Projects - Sub Committees Alamo Heights Holiday Decoration
Function: To conduct a contest to select the best three residences
in Alamo heights decorated for the December 2007 Holiday season.
Goals: Conduct the contest, obtain publicity, obtain and make
the awards.
Child Abuse Prevention
Function: To provide materials to make people aware
of how to prevent child abuse.
Donate-A-Phone
Function: To collect used cell phones for turn in to a designated
vendor that pays cash to the Battered Women's Shelter for the
phones we collect.
Goals: To increase the locations phones are collected from
2 to 5 by the end of the Rotary year. To publicize the program.
Entrepreneurial Scholars
Function: Exposure to a business service club for college
students
Donate-A-Book
Meals on Wheels Function:
To deliver noon meals Monday throug Firday to area Meals on
Wheels participants.
Goals: to have enough AHR members to deliver timely meals 5
days per week
Medical Equipment
Mentor, Boys & Girls Town
Function: To provide opportunities for the AHR to participate
in volunteer opportunities that will enrich the lives of the
children at the Boys
and Girls Town through mentoring and participating in special
projects.
Goals: To involve AHR members in both mentoring and special
events (Fall Festival) at the center.
SAMM SHelter
Function: To provide services to the poor through volunteer
efforts at the Samm Shelter on a quarterly basis.
Goals: Putting service into action once a quarter at the Samm
Shelter Blanco Campus with 4-8 Rotary members attending.
Western Trail Project
Magazine This
committee shall stimulate reader interest in The Rotarian;
sponsor a magazine month; arrange for brief monthly reviews
of the magazine on regular club programs; encourage the use
o the magazine in the induction of new members; provide a
copy of the magazine for non-Rotarian speakers; secure international
service and other special subscriptions for libraries, hospitals,
schools and other reading rooms; send news items and photographs
to the editor of the magazine and in other ways to make the
magazine of service to the club members and non-Rotarians. Red Cross Shelter
Function: Serving out of Douglas MacArther High School a community
service provided by members of AHR in conjunction with the
American Red Cross.
All members have been trained in functions of running an emergency
shelter during emergencies.
Goals: We stand ready to activate the Shelter in the event
of a hurricane that is projected to hit the Texas coast in
the Corpus Christie area. Provide training.
Vocational Awards
Function: Four way test plaques awarded to business's in the
community, that are not members of Rotary. Awarding area teachers
from AHISD & NEISD
Wine Cork Recycling
Function: To collect corks for recycling.
Goals: To collect as many corks as possible.
Youth Services
Function:Offer exposure of positive programs and interaction
with positive role models for youth incarcerated at the Cyndi
Taylor Krier Juvenile Correctional Treatment Center.
Goals: To provide enriching, educational experiences for the
youth through activities that enhance a feeling of achievement
and increase self-esteem. |
