Rotary University
Rotary University offers Degrees in Rotary Science. The purposes of the program are to provide new members with goals to “start right” their Rotary experience and to provide long time members with a reenergizing of their Rotary commitments. The club will reward those members who meet the requirements with recognition of the honor by presenting a graduation certificate at a regular meeting and a special sticker on their badge noting the degree attained.
The Rotary University Committee is responsible for coaching and getting acquainted with new members during their first year in the club. It also provides assistance to Rotarians who have been in the club for over a year to learn more about Rotary.
All new members are automatically members of the committee during their first year of membership. The committee meets at least once a month to provide new members the opportunity to meet other Rotarians, learn more about the club, learn about the opportunities to join other committees or volunteer for activities, and to report on their own progress in becoming an accepted and active member of the club.
Rotarians who have been members of the club for more than a year are needed to serve on the committee to help new members in this process. They may also work in the program to gain degrees for themselves.
Those seeking degrees have the opportunity to earn a Bachelor’s Degree that demonstrates their perfect attendance, their progress making new Rotarian acquaintances, their knowledge of Rotary, and their participation in Rotary events and activities. Higher degrees as Master and Doctorate follow if the Rotarian has increased their level in all of these areas. Degree award ceremonies are held at dates scheduled with the committee chair.

GUIDELINES/DEFINITIONS
Perfect attendance requires meeting the guidelines in the AHRC bylaws and constitution for attendance (including authorized make ups) for the number of weeks indicated.
Being a greeter means greeting members at the regular club meetings at the Barn Door from 11:30-Noon.
New Rotary acquaintances includes any Rotarian you meet or anyone met at a Rotary activity.
Attending a Board of Directors meeting means attending a regularly scheduled monthly Board meeting (not an ad hoc meeting).
Making up a meeting means completing an authorized make up for a missed meeting.
Attending a committee meeting means attending any established AHRC committee meeting lasting at least 20 minutes. You do not have to be a committee member to receive credit for this attendance.
Bringing a prospective new member as a guest means bringing an individual to a meeting that you feel could become a new AHRC Rotarian.
Participate (other than in a worker/volunteer status) in a Rotary activity includes attending Rotary activities as Alamo Heights Night, special dinners, Rotary social events, District/International meetings, RYLA, Interact, Rotaract, Fireside Chats, committee activities/projects, etc.
Volunteering to work in or accomplish Rotary activities (performing Service above Self) includes being a volunteer/worker at Rotary activities as Alamo Heights Night, special dinners, Rotary social events, District/International meetings, RYLA, Interact, Rotaract, Fireside Chats, committee activities/projects, bringing a new member in the club, donating to the Rotary Foundation, etc.
When counting activities completed, do not count the same activity in more than one category. For example: attending a committee meeting cannot count also for service above self volunteering or work at the same meeting (you can count it for either activity but not both).
Activities, attendance, etc for a lower level degree can be added to and count towards the same requirements in higher degrees. For example: If you were a greeter twice as a Bachelor, you need only add two more times to meet the Masters requirement.
If you are a member for over one year starting this program, you may only start counting your activities and requirements completed from the time you begin the program. Past activities do not count.
